The Kennedy half dollars were initially made using 90 percent silver, but in 1965, the silver composition was reduced to 40 percent. In 1971, when silver was finally eliminated from the Kennedy halves, it was one of the last circulation silver coins produced by the US Mint.
Each coin cointains .1479 oz of silver.
